ELEMENTARY GENERAL MUSIC
The elementary music program from 4th - 6th grade focuses on musical notation, music reading, classroom singing, dancing, and classroom instruments. Using the Kodaly methodology of teaching, students use the songs and games they learned from K - 3rd grade to learn to read musical notation and rhythm.
Below are some highlights per grade level!
4th Grade - Students will continue with the Recorder Karate program, and learn to read the treble clef, bass clef, notes, and rhythms. Students will also start to compose basic compositions that they will present to their classmates.
5th Grade - Students continue their work with the treble clef, bass clef, and musical notation and rhythms. Students continue to reinforce musical skills, musical concepts such as form, use proper musical terminology, and prepare for basic music analysis.
6th Grade - Students will start to learn the basics of analyzing music, continue to write basic compositions, and will start learning to play the guitar. Using the brand new classroom set of guitars, students will learn basic warm-ups, fingerings, and basic chords with strumming techniques, and will accompany themselves while singing.
