***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE****
Glendale School District ranks #1 in Mathematics growth
in Pennsylvania public schools
Ronald J. Tomalis, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education, recently released information on the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s website related to school performance under the title, “How is my school doing?”. Information contained under the “Student Progress” link provides public access to the Pennsylvania Value-Added Assessment System (PVAAS). According to this information, the Glendale School District had the largest academic growth in mathematics during a one year period for all public schools in Pennsylvania in 2010.
PDE notes that, “Achievement results (PSSA) and growth results (PVAAS) must be used together to get a complete picture of student learning”. This performance information, along with earlier releases by the Pennsylvania Department of Education related to thePSSA, reaffirms the effectiveness that Glendale is making towards academic progress with students.
The district began extensive retooling and revisions to the curriculum while providing extensive professional staff development in the 2009-2010 school year in the area of mathematics towards a Standards Aligned System model to focus on student achievement and growth. The curriculum revisions and professional development will continue in all curriculum content areas over the next several years with Language Arts (Reading) being revised during the curriculum cycle in 2010-2011.
Our student achievement and growth can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff over the past two years with an effort to focus our curriculum towards a Standards Aligned System model. Information on our performance, along with other local and similar schools is attached (EXCEL document). **Photo of staff member Ron Lynch working with curriculum director, Dr. Susan Bickford, on the Standards Aligned System website is also attached** The link to the PDE website is noted below for your ease in finding the site. https://pvaas.sas.com/evaas/Reports/BaseReport.jsf?reportid=79
