Our school social worker will be holding regular office hours to support students and families. Please feel free to reach out to her with questions, concerns, or requests for assistance locating and navigating community resources.

Sara Mays, our school social worker, is available via email or cell phone at (814) 577-0569. Her weekly office hours are on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to noon and on Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. 

Governor Tom Wolf confirmed the first two presumptive positive cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pennsylvania and reminded residents that the commonwealth is prepared to respond to community spread of this virus.

“We anticipated this very scenario and have been preparing for Pennsylvanians to become impacted by this virus,” Governor Wolf said. “This is not the first rapidly-spreading virus we have faced in our commonwealth, and it will not be the last. We are prepared to mitigate the spread of this virus.”

Dear Glendale Family, 

I hope everyone is doing well during this difficult time. Please continue to keep your family safe. This pandemic is like nothing any of us have seen before. It continues to create unexpected challenges on a daily basis. The constant change makes it difficult to move forward, but we realize that we must do so. 

On Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26, teachers will be making direct phone contact with all of our students’ families. We will be gathering information on their internet access and technology needs. This is vital information to us as we formulate a formal “continuity-of-education plan” for Glendale School District. 

The upcoming training for our staff is vital to this process. We will share a complete plan once our survey data has been collected. As I write this letter, I wish I had answers to the many questions that all of us have. Unfortunately, the nature of this situation only allows for hope that things will get better sooner rather than later. Use this opportunity to send time with family and remain safe. We will soon return to the normal hustle of our everyday lives. 

Thank you to all members of our community who find themselves on the front line of healthcare, law enforcement, or any other business continuing to provide for our community. Thank you for all you are doing. We appreciate your service. 

At this time, all offices at the district are closed, but we are checking messages and emails daily. We have also been posting information and updates on the school website, as well as the district Facebook page. 

When we are finally able to return to our normal routine, we will evaluate the many schedule cancellations that have occurred to this point. Until that time, all activities are on hold. 

In closing, please stay strong and know that we will make it through this together. We have a tremendous community that will continue to support one another in our time of need. 

Be safe, take care, and I look forward to seeing all of our students and staff returning to our schools when it is safe to do so. We will continue to monitor state and federal recommendations geared at the best interest of the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. 

For now, we face these challenging times together.
